We can offer you three ways to obtain heritage apple trees from Big Horse Creek Farm:
1) Order Custom-Grafted Apple Trees
A) Visit the Apple Varieties page to view the various categories of all the selections currently available for grafting. Because apples have such a wide range of characteristics and uses, many varieties will be listed in multiple categories.
B) Click on any of the various categories to open up a list of descriptions and photos of apple varieties specific to that category. If you have a particular apple name in mind, use the Search box on each page to locate the apple you’re seeking.
C) By default, all our trees are grafted onto one of two different semi-dwarf rootstocks unless a custom request is made for a specific rootstock. We can also custom-graft onto standard rootstock. To learn more about the rootstocks we use in our work, visit our Rootstock Information page.
D) We begin our grafting in early March so all orders must be received by March 1st in order to have your trees delivered by November. When your order has been received you will receive confirmation from us by phone, email, or letter.
E) We are a very small home nursery operation so due to our limited size and lack of staff we must limit apple tree requests to no more than 25 trees per customer order. We also ask you not request more than 10 trees of any single variety. If possible, please include a list of alternative varieties for grafting should your primary selections fail to graft properly.
2) Graft Your Homestead Trees
As one of our unique services, we can graft apple trees from cuttings (scionwood) collected from your own homestead trees. Send us scionwood by March 1st for fall delivery. For detailed instructions on how to properly collect and ship scionwood to us for custom-grafting, visit our Collecting Scionwood page.
3) List of Fall Trees
Every fall we offer hundreds of apple trees for those customers who did not or could not place orders for custom-grafted trees before the March 1st deadline. Visit our Fall Trees page in mid-September to view a complete list of available trees.
