Tarbutton
Our friend, Joyce Neighbors of Gadsden, Alabama, noted apple collector from whom we obtained this old apple, says the Tarbutton is an old variety first described in a 1982-1983 catalog of Lawson’s Nursery in Ball Ground, Georgia. According to Jim Lawson this apple probably originated with a Humphrey Tarbutton of northern Georgia sometime in the 1800’s. Fruit is yellow with red striping and is a very good cooking and drying apple as well as a fine fresh eating variety. Considered one of the best for apple jelly. Ripens in August.
Do you sell apple trees? On my phone so maybe I’m missing the order info. Interested in the tarbutton and some others.
Hi Don,
Yes, we sell apple trees, but are out of Tarbutton for the season. We can graft this apple variety for you for next year, if you wish.
We have our complete inventory list, Fall List, on our website from which you can select any of hundreds of apple varieties to order for planting this fall. Thank you for your interest.
