Ramsdell Sweet originated in Connecticut, and, although a fine, attractive fresh eating apple, was not widely sold by southern nurseries. It was introduced by Rev. H. S. Ramsdell of Thompson, Connecticut in 1838 and officially catalogued by the American Pomological Society in 1862. Fruit is medium to large, conic to rectangular in shape with yellow skin nearly covered with dark red and darker red striping. The yellowish-white flesh is firm, tender and very sweet, but can become mealy if overripe. Ripens in September.
